Wheel measurements
There are wheel measurements for vintage bicycles but if you are going to change the wheels it is the best time to change to a current measurement, this way you will be able to find tires for your bike more easily, since tires for old measurements like (700A or 700B) are very difficult to get. Wheels in general can be 28” or 26” (there are also many more measurements like 20” wheels) and within these for example like the old 26” or 650B which correspond to ETRTO 584 or the new ones which would be 650A or ETRTO 590.
It is equally important to know if they are road bike wheels where you want to use a very narrow tire, where they should not be wider than 18mm or if you want wider wheels for mixed or hybrid use that should at least be 20mm, also check if you are restoring a bicycle and it has rod brakes, you need a special rim with a profile for rod brakes.
